people like you / find it easy
lord almighty, my job is curious sometimes. I just spent a whirlwind tour flying to Toronto and back to do an Environmental Management System audit of a manufacturing plant. Things I learned:
- Canadian restaurants are better and cheaper than U.S. restaurants (on average)
- If someone mentions ISO 14001 to you at work, run away screaming
- the Dodge Magnum is a boat of a car with awful driving visibility and a wretched, testosterone-saturated name.
- if you ever want to hear all the office gossip, travel with your Human Resources rep (especially if she's had a drink or two)
traveling for work could be a pain with family, but when you're single it just means free meals at good restaurants. And when you get home, everything is exactly where you left it, and all the trees have more buds and the grass is greener (literally).
though traveling for work also means you have to miss seeing both Gang of Four and Autechre come in concert. Double-whammy. (though that's next month)
on a completely unrelated note, my friend Jeff will be the happiest to learn that I finally own a Joy Division CD. Though I copped out and got Substance instead of Unknown Pleasures, but it is still brilliant.
