all we have is now

My mother, in her infinite worrying caring, sent me a list of our family's medical history. It's like your family tree, except gloomy and wizened with disease. Reading through it is bleak and depressing by definition, because everyone eventually meets their match. Mitochondria stop being so mighty, say fuck it, and go off the job.

My summation: the women in my family are reasonably long-lived (80s/90s). The men seem to have bum kidneys, weak hearts, and a predilection for the bottle.

Highlights, per my mother: You should be checked for hemochromatosis and polycystic kidney disease. At least I don't have to worry about having an oophorectomy!

notes to self: keep exercising, drink more water (and less gin).
