to step quietly and quickly out into the eco-political fray, this is the best summary I've seen of the climate change report that came out today:

not that they're unbiased, but as a scientist I appreciate their summation of the data.
Check the second graph down which shows the global-average radiative forcing estimates and ranges in 2005. It's the clearest, most succinct picture of what's going on that I've seen, complete with error bars (thank goddess). And, perhaps the most interesting column of the graph is the "assessed level of scientific understanding (LOSU)." A very frank and humble statement about what we don't know or understand well.
