there's a design / to what I did and said

sometimes you just need to listen to the song "redford (for yia-yia and pappou)" by sufjan stevens. you are struck by the aching beauty of its simplicity. you stop; contemplate what you're doing, what you're trying to achieve, and realize that you don't really know. the complexities of life get in the way, keep you from wrapping your mind around it. but you have this sense that at the heart of it all it's really simple. intangible, perhaps, and inexpressable in words. but there's this song; there's this life that you love.

it's a phenomenon understood by the most educated thinkers and the simplest child. that universal joy that strikes us all, when we least expect it. it's what we all desire, isn't it?
