Josh posted about the dwindling stockpiles of plutonium 238, which immediately piqued my interest and thus I had to learn more about it. Apparently, a mass of it gets warm enough to glow a dull cherry red, simply by its own radioactive decay. This, plus listening to Ella Fitzgerald christmas songs, made me think: perhaps Rudolph's nose was made of Pu-238.Side note: Katie's off to Copenhagen to observe the UN climate change conference, so I predict a rise in posting frequency and a decrease in self-editing. One is positive, the other...well, if it ends up with more of this, you all will appreciate the inanity that Katie has to listen to on a daily basis.
