just a lovin' spoonful

I discovered one thing the guide books won't tell you: if you're cold from walking and biking outside in 38 degree weather for hours, stop into a tea shop. not a cafe, but a place that sells tea. they'll hit you with a free tiny cup of warming goodness while you browse their wares, and yet you won't feel obligated to buy something. though it is a good sales strategy, i.e. if you give them a sample they'll be more inclined to purchase something.

now if only the little pastry shops and sushi bars felt the same way.
