blast-off
there's a certain time that I secretly love: that time where you're getting ready to go on a long trip so you don't buy groceries and instead eat all the random things you can find left in your kitchen. Oh, it's not the culinary experimentation that I like, though it can occasionally be a fun adventure (though more often it's like this: Cheerios with a shot of vermouth). No, it's that period of preparation by Not Doing; the subtle shift in habits and routines leading up to the trip.
We're going to Poland for twelve days with K's parents and her brother and sister-in-law. We're going to seek out this tiny village where K's great-grandparents grew up. None of us speak Polish. There are two vegans and a vegetarian in the group. Some of the people going have a poor sense of direction. And there's still an off-chance that a certain Volcano Who Will Not Be Named could throw an ashy wrench into things. Hilarity ensues.

Good luck on your trip. It sounds like it could all be very interesting...
I'm sure it'll be great. Even the potentially difficult moments will make great stories later.
So is this a time for the vegans to learn to love those fantastic Polish sausages?
